OK, this story starts with me not being able to compile Spidermonkey to 32 bits anymore. Remarking I've got gcc-4 bits on my Ubuntu install, I start cleaning up the installed packages... until I realize I've transitively uninstalled my graphics drivers. WHAT HAVE I DONE

now, though I've reinstalled the graphics drivers and things, I'm kinda afraid to restart my machine...

I will not yield to the temptation to install ArchLinux, former self got sufficiently annoyed that I can remember (

I installed it after being away from Linux for 14 years and it's going well. The documentation is amazing

@bnjbvr I guess that's what they call a quantum computer: it both works and not works at the same time, until you restart.
